Research My laboratory is interested in the pathogenesis and treatment of serious bacterial infections, sepsis, and induced secondary complications such as respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and acute renal failure (ARF). Because sepsis is associated with overwhelming stimulation of the innate immune response with tissue damage, we are especially interested in the interactions of the bacterial cell wall with the host and its secondary inflammatory consequences. An additional recent interest is the composition of host and microbial proteins present in the CSF during infection. Projects at the moment include:
